1. How long have you been in the dental hygiene profession?
I graduated from Ohio State University in 1974. My clinical
experience includes practicing in general, pediatric and periodontal
practices.
2. How long have you been speaking?
I started my speaking career about 15 years ago. I was
working part-time as an educational representative for a dental
products company and part-time in clinical practice. Part
of my role as an educational representative was to present
programs to dental and dental hygiene schools. From there,
more speaking opportunities became available, and I began
to develop my own programs.
3. What are some of your program topics?
Currently, I present on communication and motivation,
periodontal maintenance, prevention throughout the lifespan
and implant updates and maintenance. I am also excited about
my new breakfast, luncheon or dinner program called, "The
Power of One," that relays ways our colleagues have had
a positive impact on others' lives.
4. What is the length of your programs?
All of the programs can be presented in a half-day (3
hours), or expanded to a full-day (6 hours). The only exception
is, "The Power of One," which is one hour long.
5. Are your programs attended by dental hygienists only?
No... the messages I present apply to all members of the
oral healthcare team. In fact, the most rewarding for myself
and the attendees are when there is a mix of various dental
personnel present. The interaction and feedback is very worthwhile
since we can all learn from each other.
6. At what major meetings have you presented?
I've spoken at Yankee Dental Congress, Chicago Midwinter,
American Dental Hygienists' Association, American Dental Association,
American Academy of Periodontology and Greater New York. At
most of these meetings I have presented two times or more.
7. How far in advance are your programs booked?
Generally, a year in advance is sufficient. However, sometimes
I am booked sooner, especially for larger meetings. On the
other hand, I can occasionally present on shorter notice,
provided I don't have a conflict.
8. What is your fee?
Please contact me directly, via the contact page on this
website, for the most current quote.
9. Is corporate sponsorship available for your presentations?
Yes, I am able to obtain at least partial funding for
many of the programs I present.
10. Are you also available to write for professional publications?
Yes. Some of my articles have appeared in the Journal
of the American Dental Association, Dentistry Today and Practical
Procedures in Aesthetic Dentistry. As Editor-in-Chief of the
Journal of Practical Hygiene, I understand the writing process
and enjoy it.
